Rangnick provides fitness updates on Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes ahead of Burnley tie

After Manchester United’s FA Cup loss on Friday night, Ralf Rangnick has allayed injury worries for Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.

The Red Devils lost an 8-7 penalty shootout to Championship side Middlesbrough following a 1-1 draw in the fourth round at Old Trafford.

Rangnick’s team had taken the lead via Jadon Sancho, but the visitors levelled controversially as Duncan Watmore seemed to handle the ball prior to Matt Crooks slotting home.

Fernandes had a golden opportunity to put the Red Devils ahead in the second half when he struck the post despite having the majority of the goal in front of him.

In extra time, the scores were 1-1, and Middlesbrough won the penalty shootout after United’s Anthony Elanga missed the clinching spot-kick.

Sancho seemed to be struggling and was removed from the game in extra time, while Fernandes also landed awkwardly but stayed on the field. Rangnick, though, is aiming to have both players available when United go to Turf Moor on Tuesday to face Burnley in the Premier League.

‘Jadon didn’t get a knock,’ Rangnick told MUTV. ‘He was just feeling tired.

‘Bruno had a knock on his back but could play through the whole game.

‘Hopefully, for Tuesday, we will have all of those players available again.’

On Fernandes’ miss, Rangnick said: ‘The chance that Bruno had, if he had 10 chances like that in a game, he would score nine of them.

”Today he hit the post and I think he tried to place that ball almost too accurately into the corner of the goal.

‘In the end, things like that can happen. Of course, he didn’t do that on purpose and for now, our full focus must go on the other two competitions.’
