Philippe Clement on his Monaco future: “It’s up to the management. I want to fight for the club.”

After a 2-1 defeat against FC Toulouse on the final day of the Ligue 1 season, AS Monaco have missed out on European football altogether.

Naturally, Philippe Clement was questioned about his future as Monaco manager post-match, and despite being adamant that he wants to “fight” for the job that he has occupied since January 2022, he accepts that the decision is ultimately out of his hands.

“It’s up to the management. I am not someone who escapes responsibility. I always look at myself in the mirror. I always want to improve. I have a heart for this club. I want to fight for the club, but it’s up to the management to decide that. That’s the world of football. Before Lens, we spoke about extending, and everyone was happy. Now we’re all disappointed, me first and foremost. We will see,” said the Belgian in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

Asked whether he has the energy to continue at the club given the club’s demise in recent weeks, Clement replied. “Right now, I am tired. There is a holiday now. I gave everything these past months.”

Questioned whether he expects a turbulent summer of arrivals and departures at the Principality club, Clement replied, “That is up to the management. There are players that would like to leave. Naturally, that needs to be on conditions that suit the club.” Clement concluded by revealing that the players will return for pre-season on 3rd July. Only time will tell whether he will lead that session or not.
