Olivier Giroud affirms desire to remain at AC Milan

Talismanic French forward Olivier Giroud (37) has affirmed his desire to remain at AC Milan beyond the end of his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Having arrived for a mere €3m from Chelsea back in the summer of 2021, Giroud has become a key figure for Stefano Pioli’s side. He has played 100 times for the club, scoring 40 goals in that time, whilst he has also become a key leader in the group, especially since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s retirement.

‘I am convinced that I can still be useful’ – Giroud

However, Giroud’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and meanwhile, AC Milan are being heavily linked with a move for out-of-favour Lille OSC forward Jonathan David, who could be available on a cut-price deal. Giroud, France’s record goalscorer, has revealed that discussions over an extension are yet to get underway, however, he is unequivocal in his stance of wanting to remain at the San Siro beyond this season.

I haven’t yet spoken [about a contract] with the club, but I would like to stay. I am convinced that I can still be useful in this team,” he told Le Journal du DimancheGiroud is expected to start for France against Greece on Tuesday night.
