Manchester United are eyeing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Sport says Barcelona’s midfield for next season seems set up, with Franck Kessie arriving. Xavi has a lot of options in midfield and he wants to keep them, although De Jong’s future is not known.
United are evolving their squad and they are interested in the Dutchman. Their new coach Erik ten Hag believes in De Jong from their Ajax days and he will have 250 million euros to boost the squad with. Barcelona don’t want to sell, however, and for now everything indicates they won’t.
De Jong is a starter in Xavi’s team despite his inconsistent displays. With Ronald Koeman he seemed more comfortable on the pitch, under Xavi he is still learning his midfield role.
Ten Hag’s arrival could change things if De Jong wants to go. Barcelona signed him for 75m, with 11m in add ons. A big sale before June 30 wouldn’t be bad for Barcelona, to help balance the books. However De Jong is happy in Catalonia.
