As covered in a club statement released this afternoon, Ligue 1 club Rennes have cancelled the next three days of training for their academy sides after the director the their training centre was attacked by a father of a youth team player over the weekend. The club explained:
“In support of Denis Arnaud, Director of the Academy and victim of an attack by a parent of a young footballer on Saturday at the Henri Guérin training centre, Stade Rennais FC have decided to cancel all training sessions at the Red and Black Academy until Thursday. Given the seriousness of the facts, a complaint will be filed.
In the current atmosphere, where professional and amateur football has become the victim of an intolerable outbreak of violence, Stade Rennais FC would like to remind you that its aim is to train young talents, to support them in personal development and provide pleasure to those who love football.
Under no circumstances should educators, managers, players, referees and volunteers suffer from the irresponsible behaviour of a minority. Football must remain a celebration and a source of togetherness. Such actions are not compatible with the values of sport, they jeopardize the proper functioning of clubs and the progress of young players.”
