Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should keep Dino Mavropanos in his squad next season, former Germany star Didi Hamann has claimed.
The Greek centre-back was signed by Arsenal from PAS Giannina in the summer of 2018.
Mavropanos has managed just eight first-team appearances for Arsenal since then and is currently on loan at Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart for the second successive season.
The 24-year-old will almost certainly Stuttgart on a permanent deal after sporting director Sven Mislintat – formerly with Arsenal – confirmed they had a purchase clause in his loan deal.
Mislintat said: “We have a purchase obligation of three million euros (£2.5m) if we remain in the league.”
And Hamann, who starred in Germany with Bayern Munich, believes Arsenal have made a mistake.
“I think he could play in the Premier League; I really do,” Hamann told TribalFootball.com, on behalf of FreeSuperTips.
“It’s always been an area Arsenal have struggled in and should do better, but he’s playing really well in the Bundesliga.
“He can score a goal; he’s really threatening from set pieces and has really improved as a player.
“I think he’s a player who Arsenal could actually do with.”
Mavropanos has been a mainstay for Stuttgart this season, starting in 19 out of 22 league games, with injury costing him those three games.
In encouraging news for Arsenal, Mavropanos recently told BILD he still holds ambitions to play in England.
He said: “Stuttgart is one of the biggest clubs in Germany.
“At the moment, I’m only concentrating on VfB and making sure we stay in the league.
“I would like to play in the Premier League again at some point. But at the moment, I feel very comfortable at VfB.”
