Despite Monday night’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace, Bernardo Silva feels Manchester City are still in a stronger position than Liverpool to lift the Premier League title.
Despite having 18 attempts on goal and 74% possession, the Citizens were unable to break past a tenacious Eagles defense at Selhurst Park, dropping points in two of their previous four league matches.
Pep Guardiola’s side wasted the opportunity to go six points clear at the top of the league and are now four points ahead of Liverpool despite having played one more game.
Silva acknowledged that City were unhappy throughout the 90 minutes, but he feels the current Premier League champions are still in pole position to regain their crown.
“We were very good. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score. We had our chances, we should have scored but we didn’t. Very frustrating game, but yet still a long way to go, nine games to go,” the Portugal international told Sky Sports News in his post-match interview.
“We’re still in a good position. It’s still better to be in our position than Liverpool. They still have to play in our stadium as well. It’s gonna be exciting.
“It’s always better to win than to draw the game. We wanted to win. We wanted to have an advantage of six points to Liverpool, with them [still to play] one game in hand.
“[The gap is] four points, they play Arsenal, we go and rest before playing Southampton for the FA Cup. Like I said, nine games to go, very difficult fixtures ahead of us. We’re going to be there. We’re going to fight as usual for the title.”
Liverpool will now play two Premier League matches before City return to action, with a difficult away match at Arsenal on Wednesday night followed by a home match against Watford on April 2.
Man City’s next Premier League match comes against Burnley on April 2, followed by a championship clash against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds at the Etihad Stadium on April 10.
