The agent of Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale has hit back at criticism from the Madrid press.
Bale took a swipe at the Spanish media after playing incredibly well for Wales in their World Cup play-off. He had been branded a ‘parasite’, having missed Los Blancos’ Clasico loss with an apparent fitness problem. Now, Jonathan Barnett has also taken the opportunity to defend his client.
“If Real Madrid had integrated him into the team more, they would have a great player,” the player’s agent said. “But we will live with it and move on.
“He’s one of the best British players ever, and the best Welshman ever.”
On Bale’s potential retirement, his agent insists that the decision has not been made and that it all depends on whether Wales finally make it to the World Cup.
“Gareth doesn’t know anything about what will happen in the summer,” Barnett said. “It all depends on Wales.
“We haven’t spoken to anyone yet, we’ll make the decision sometime in June.”
Bale hits back
After being criticised for his lack of appearances for Real Madrid this season, Bale hit back while on international duty.
“I have developed a thick skin during my time in the public spotlight,” Bale said, “but that doesn’t mean articles like these don’t cause damage and upset personally and professionally to those at the receiving end of these malicious stories.”
