Zinedine Zidane continues to refuse PSG, waits for France job

As reported by RMC, former Real Madrid coach and France World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane is continuing to prioritise taking the France national team job over a move to PSG.

The Frenchman has turned down QSI, PSG’s owners, on several occasions say the outlet while he waits for the France job to open up. However, after the Nations League triumph last year, it’s likely current coach Didier Deschamps will remain in charge beyond the 2022 World Cup this coming November. As such, Zidane may be on the verge of changing his plans.

Zidane, according to Foot Mercato, turned down the chance to replace Mauricio Pochettino last month due to the PSG squad not suiting him and not being happy with the way the club is run. TF1 added that the impending Champions League tie with his old club, Real Madrid, was also something he wanted to avoid. Zidane reportedly isn’t a fan of sporting director Leonardo and would much prefer to work with Arsène Wenger, who PSG have also tried to recruit on many occasions.

Zidane is seen as the coach to restore order in cliquey dressing room and is looking at a huge salary that would far surpass Pochettino’s €8m net yearly deal and even Zidane’s €12m net wage in Madrid, say Foot Mercato, as the Paris club try to do everything to convince Zidane. Could he finally be about to acquiesce?
