Why are PSG holding back on announcing their new signings?

As Paris Saint-Germain quietly orchestrates their movements for the upcoming season, official announcements remain scarce. The confirmed departure of manager Christophe Galtier and the all-but-confirmed arrival of Luis Enrique as the new head coach have yet to be officially announced by the club, and no new signings have been unveiled.

However, several arrivals have already been secured in an albeit silent manner. RMC Sport report that these signings have not been officially revelled due to the imposition of Financial Fair Play regulations on Les Parisiens.

While PSG has already begun their significant manoeuvres, they have refrained from making any formal club declarations. Nonetheless, certain changes have already been set in motion. The departures of Lionel Messi (35) and Sergio Ramos (37) were confirmed shortly after the season’s conclusion, but the arrival of new players is still eagerly anticipated – at least, officially speaking.

Les Parisiens intend to sign players on free transfers before the end of June, in order for their salaries to show in the club’s accounts for the 2022/2023 season. This concerns the signings of Marco Asensio (27), Milan Skriniar (28), and Cher Ndour (18) who have reached the end of their contracts at Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Benfica respectively. This means that the official club announcement of the players may only take place in July, for consistency.

In regards to the next signing that will command a transfer fee, likely Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte (22), his registration will be accounted for in July. The transfer fee for the Uruguayan midfielder reportedly amounts to €60 million, equivalent to his release clause at Sporting. PSG have reportedly  confirmed to RMC that they have taken all necessary measures to ensure compliance with financial fair play regulations in this transaction.
