What are Napoli at risk of in false accounting investigation?

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is now under investigation by the Rome prosecutor for false accounting but it remains to be seen how the case proceeds.

Corriere della Sera today have provided some details about what can happen in the saga and how it can potentially proceed in the future. The proceedings, in essence, are linked to the transfer of Victor Osimhen as he had joined Napoli in a big money move from Lille. In the deal, Napoli had paid €20 million and four players were involved in the move, amidst question marks about whether their values were big enough to pay the entire sum that Lille wanted.

But the question which arises is whether Napoli are at risk of a similar points deduction or an equivalent ban as what Juventus received last season. Napoli were initially acquitted and the Federal Court of Justice also acquitted them, but the federal prosecutor could now refer Napoli’s case once again by using what is called ‘revocation mechanism’ and that is what happened in Juve’s case as well.

But the difference in the Napoli case is that it involves only one shady deal. Whereas when it comes to Juventus’ case, it involved over 20 shady deals that were under the scanner and they ended up costing Juve points last season. In Juventus’ case, the investigators had managed to find wiretaps but that won’t be possible in Napoli’s case.

To know how the case proceeds, we would have to wait for the federal prosecutor to receive the new documents and the sort of evidence present in it will determine what happens and the process is likely to take 30 days.
