‘We dominated them from start to finish. They have nothing.’ – PSG’s Kylian Mbappé ‘frustrated’ after Newcastle draw

Kylian Mbappé (24) was frustrated by Paris Saint-Germain’s draw against Newcastle United. Les Parisiens dominated possession and had multiple chances, but were reliant on a late, controversial penalty to secure just a point.

PSG limited Newcastle to just 27% possession at the Parc des Princes, whilst the home side also had 31 shots to Newcastle’s five. However, it took a 98th-minute penalty from Mbappé to salvage a crucial point, which consolidated the Ligue 1 club’s second place in the group ahead of the final round of matches.

It means that PSG’s destiny is in their own hands when they travel to Dortmund in mid-December. The Bundesliga side have already guaranteed their progression thanks to Tuesday night’s victory over AC Milan.

‘We should have easily won the match’ – Mbappé

However, Mbappé was frustrated not to have taken three points and also criticised Newcastle’s gameplan. “It’s frustrating because we dominated from start to finish. They have nothing. We knew it was their game to have nothing. We needed to finish our moves better […] we need to work harder in front of goal in games like this. We need to kill them off. We had too many clear chances and we should have easily won the match,” said the France captain in a post-match interview with Canal Plus Foot

Newcastle United host AC Milan at St James’ Park in mid-December and must win to have any chance of progressing to the Group Stages of the Champions League.
