Villarreal coach Unai Emery was delighted with their 2-0 win against Valencia last night.
Arnaut Danjuma struck twice for the victory.
Emery said: “Valencia CF had the Copa del Rey match very close. It’s normal that they have to manage the effort to get there at their best. From there, we wanted the three points, we weren’t thinking about Liverpool. We managed the effort in Munich and Getafe to face the Liverpool game in the best possible conditions. We had players who were in perfect condition to perform.
“The Champions League is a very exciting journey, we have to prepare ourselves to compete to the maximum, but throughout the Champions League we have been thinking that maybe the end was coming and we will always have LaLiga. The enjoyment at these levels of the Champions League is incredible on a professional level, in terms of emotions and moments.”
He added: “We have been managing our efforts since last Tuesday. Today, three of the players who played on Saturday played again. We have tried to find answers in the squad and we are satisfied. We had a setback with Gerard on Saturday, let’s hope it’s short so he can make it against Liverpool. Today it was important to win, that there were no injuries and to manage efforts with some players. As well as winning, we finished without any injuries.”
