Uli Hoeneß comments on Bayern Munich’s disappointing deadline day

It has been a rather indifferent transfer window for Bayern Munich. While on one hand they will undoubtedly consider the signing of England captain Harry Kane as a roaring success, the failure to sign a midfielder or right-back would have frustrated those at the Säbener Straße.

However, as reported via Kicker, Bayern’s Honorary President Uli Hoeneß would have a few final remarks regarding the transfer window. In fact, now it is over, Hoeneß would confirm to the Süddeutsche Zeitung that the use of the word “transfer” is “punished until December 1st”.

Nonetheless, with the hopes of signing Fulham midfielder João Palhinha dashed at the final hour, Thomas Tuchel would not even be able to lure João Cancelo back to the club, as he headed to Barcelona. A disappointing day for all in Bavaria, especially after Palhinha had completed his medical at the club.

Nevertheless, Hoeneß would add that: “apart from exceptional cases, in the future we should no longer be in the middle of the action on the last transfer day.” It was not an experience that the president found to be all that enthralling, especially after he admitted that those in charge at Bayern “used to laugh about deadline day!”

For the future, Hoeneß hopes that there is clarity over transfers before teams return from training, or at least August 1st. However, until that decision is made, there could be another deadline day where Bayern find themselves at the centre of attention.
