Udinese chief Pierpaolo Marino was impressed by the team despite their friendly defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Zebrette lost 2-1 in midweek.
“It was a top-class game but it’s a shame about the result. We deserved to have scored in the first half. Brandon Soppy and Becao were given heavy-handed treatment by them; I think the referee was too lenient,” said Marino.
“After the break we conceded a goal from a set piece which happens too often for us. Andrea Sottil will be working to remove these blemishes from our game. Sandi Lovric’s goal was harshly ruled out for offside. While you learn from defeats we deserved more from this game.
“As for Walace, he pulled up with a niggling injury in training on Wednesday. Consequently he was left out as a precaution, and on Friday he’ll undergo an MRI scan; we’re hoping it’s nothing serious. He’s an amazing lad who just gets on with things even if the press say what they say about him.
“On the subject of Nahuel Molina, negotiations are ongoing, which is why the coach opted to give Soppy some playing time. He’s a player for the future and he put in a great performance.
“I’d like to send my best wishes to Gerard Deulofeu, who’s just become a father again. His joy spurred us on. All the best to his family.”
