Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has stated that despite some disagreements, he will try to improve the situation at the club.
In one part of the Sky Italia interview that was released yesterday, Conte has spoken of the need for experienced players at Spurs. But he stated that the club prefers younger players who have room to grow and they don’t prefer signing established players.
In the extended version of the interview, he talked about the Spurs team of the past and how Spurs have failed to reach the level from the 2016/17 season.
He said: “There was a time when I was coaching Chelsea when Tottenham were really strong. [They were] A mixture of experience, young players who had had time to develop and become a strong team. Many of those have left, because they had reached the age limit or for other reasons. And in that moment you have to be good at work to prepare for a future.
“Looking back doesn’t count now. We need to be more realistic and clear, knowing that I will do my best to try to improve the situation. The improvement will include the improvement of the individual players. I have a group of good guys who want to learn and follow. Let’s go ahead knowing that it will take time, patience and many times it will be necessary to go to bed nervous or without sleep.”
Conte praised the club’s signing of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, while also stating that he doesn’t regret not signing anyone else – even though Spurs weakened in January
Spurs had lost to Southampton and Wolves recently and they are currently at 8th in the Premier League table but have 3 games in hand over Manchester United.
