Germany has provided the World Cup with many iconic moments, having won the competition on four separate occasions. Die Mannschaft have also provided some of the greatest goals in the tournament’s history.

5) Toni Kroos vs Sweden – 2018
The 2018 World Cup was one to forget for Germany as they were eliminated from the group stages. However, Kroos would provide one of the goals of the tournament in their second game against Sweden.
Germany was held at 1-1 by Sweden until Kroos fired in a freekick from an acute angle in the dying minutes of added time to win the game 2-1.
4) Lothar Matthaus vs Morocco – 1986
After scraping qualification to the knockout stages, it was unknown how Germany would perform in the latter stages of the competition in 1986.
Germany continued to struggle to find goals, but they would win their Round of 16 clash with Morocco in style courtesy of a Matthaus free kick in the final minutes of normal time.
He stepped over the ball from around 30 yards out, drilling it low and hard into the bottom right corner, leaving the keeper with no chance of saving it.
3) Franz Beckenbauer vs England – 1970
Beckenbauer’s goal against England in the 1970 World Cup helped Germany get revenge for the controversy they suffered in the final four years prior.
After being struck by the ball, England forward Francis Lee laid on the ground, but Beckenbauer continued with play, skipping past the England defence before firing a shot past Peter Bonetti.
Germany went on to win the game 3-2 and finished 3rd in the tournament.

2) Mario Gotze vs Argentina – 2014
One of the most iconic World Cup goals came in the 2014 final as attacking midfielder Mario Gotze scored a goal in added time to win Germany their fourth World Cup.
The goal came after Andre Schurrle played in a chip-through ball to the left side of the box. Gotze took it down with his chest and knocked the ball past Sergio Romero.
1) Gerd Muller vs Netherlands – 1974
Muller is one of the most prolific and iconic goalscorers in Germany history, and one of his most important goals came in the 1974 World Cup final, winning the trophy for Die Mannschaft for the first time in 20 years.
His goal came after Rainer Bonhof played a pass into the box. The forward turned around and struck the ball low and hard past Jan Jongbloed in the Netherlands goal.
