“Things have changed a bit”

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted that he is unsure of his future at Bergamo.

Speaking to Sky Italia after La Dea’s inspiring 3-1 victory against Spezia on Sunday, Gasperini said,

“I am tied to this club and this environment, I signed a contract in November, it is clear that things have changed a bit, it will depend on what the club decides. We have never talked, I am open to any solution. If this continues, I will continue with enthusiasm.”

It has been an underwhelming season for Atalanta, with Gasperini’s side failing to amass positive results consistently. And their early knockouts from the Champions League and then from the Europa League have not helped the cause either.

La Dea have garnered 59 points from 36 matches in the league, resulting in them missing out on the next season’s Champions League qualification. As things stand, they could end the current campaign with no European football for the next season.

Of course, several factors are yet to play a part as Roma potentially winning the inaugural edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League and finishing the Serie A season in the seventh position could see eight teams from Serie A qualify for Europe next season.

In November 2021, Gasperini signed an extension at Atalanta until June 2024 with an option for a further year.
