Ten Hag ‘would be interested’ in £156m star at Old Trafford

Manchester United would be interested in a move to bring Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Kylian Mbappé to Old Trafford, but the 23-year-old may not be so keen on joining Erik ten Hag’s side, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The £156m signing is currently in Qatar representing France on World Cup duty.

What’s the latest on Mbappé’s future?

According to multiple sources, Mbappé is eager to leave French giants PSG in January, with his relationship with the club deteriorating rapidly.

The former Monaco man only signed a new contract at the Parc des Princes at the end of May, amid suggestions that a move to Real Madrid was on the card for the young forward.

Sky Sports report that the La Liga giants were prepared to pay over £199m in transfer fees to secure the services of the Frenchman last summer, as well as offering the player a signing on fee of £110m on top of his potential £20m per-year wages.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United have an interest in the possibility of moving for the 60-time France international in January, with the club being one of very few who could pay the touted £150m+ transfer fee required to secure his services, as well as his £500k-per-week wage packet.

But Jones isn’t convinced that Mbappé would be that convinced on a move to Old Trafford, with the Premier League side having not won a major trophy since their 2017 Europa League success under José Mourinho.

What has Jones said about Mbappé and Manchester United?

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure they would be interested but do they have the pull to actually get him?

“I mean, this is a player that wants to be the best, he wants to win everything. United haven’t won the league since 2013, they haven’t won the Champions League in even longer.

“We’re talking about the best player in the world here.

“He’s 23, he’ll barely remember a time when the United were a serious force in the game.”

Will Mbappé make the move to Manchester United?

At the moment, it would seem fanciful that the Red Devils could pull off a move for the 2018 World Cup winner, with the side currently preparing for a Europa League campaign after Christmas, with no realistic hope of winning this season’s Premier League title.

Mbappé’s attentions at the moment will be fully focused on helping France retain their World Cup title, and he got off to the possible start in doing that, providing a goal and an assist in Les Blues’ 4-1 rout of Australia on Tuesday evening.

The PSG star will have his sights set on a potential golden boot award as well as football’s most coveted trophy and will be hoping his goal against the Socceroos will be a springboard for further success at the tournament.

France take on Denmark in their next fixture on Saturday afternoon, and Mbappé will be hoping that another strong showing will encourage more suitors to his services, but Manchester United doesn’t seem like a realistic possibility at this moment in time.
