Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking forward to being reunited with Donny van de Beek.
The midfielder was part of Ten Hag’s Ajax team that reached the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals before switching to the Reds in 2020.
He was however shipped out on loan to Everton at the start of the just-concluded Premier League season having struggled for game-time at Old Trafford.
When asked at his first press conference if he was keen to see his fellow countryman again, Ten Hag replied:
“Yes, of course, we had a fantastic squad in that time in Ajax.
“I really had a good relationship with him and, of course, I’m looking forward to meeting him again on the pitch.”
The Dutchman was also asked if he was looking forward to working with Ronaldo, he replied;
“Of course,” Erik smiled. When asked what last term’s leading scorer can bring, the boss laughed: “Ronaldo? Goals!” He then stressed he would go over his plans with the Portugal international soon.
“I talk first with Ronaldo before I talk with you,” he asserted.
The 52-year-old is also keen on working with club captain Harry Maguire, who has been under criticism in recent months.
“I have to repeat that next season is a different season but I think he did a great job,” said the manager. “He’s a great player, he’s achieved already a lot really also [with his] contribution to Manchester United. So I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Man United are set to resume pre-season training on June 27, 2022 in preparation for the new season.
