Manchester United will struggle to stump up the cash needed to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe after the Old Trafford giants overspent during the summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
Erik ten Hag’s side have gone into the domestic break sitting fifth in the Premier League table and, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, the Red Devils have been linked with a big-name.
What’s the latest news involving Mbappe?
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are seeking a January replacement for Ronaldo and, as a result, Mbappe has emerged as a shock target.
The report suggests the Red Devils are able to pay upwards of £150million for the 59-cap France international, while they could also put a contract worth £500,000-per-week on the table as they look to steal a march on his other suitors.
Although it was revealed last month that Mbappe is seeking a move away from PSG at the turn of the year, he has since denied wanting to leave the Parc des Princes.
The 23-year-old is set to be involved at the World Cup after being named in France’s squad by head coach Didier Deschamps.
Mbappe’s selection comes after scoring 19 goals and registering a further five assists in 20 appearances for PSG this season.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Mbappe?
Sheth understands that Manchester United have limited their chances of being able to sign Mbappe because of their outlay during the summer transfer window.
The journalist has doubts over how much money ten Hag will be able to spend during the early stages of 2023.
Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “All the information I’m getting when we talk about Mbappe and Manchester United is that United actually did overspend their budget in the summer.
“Quite how much money they’ll have for any player, let alone the outlay it would require for Kylian Mbappe, is questionable.”
Who did Manchester United sign in the summer?
Ten Hag was appointed as Manchester United’s boss following the conclusion of last season and there is no doubt that he was backed by the hierarchy during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils parted with more than £200million, bringing in the likes of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.
Manchester United’s most costly signing came in the form of Antony, who followed ten Hag from reigning Eredivisie champions Ajax for £86million.
That switch resulted in the Brazilian becoming the second most expensive acquisition in the club’s entire history.
