Sevilla chief Monchi has blasted reports of coach Julen Lopetegui leaving.
Sevilla qualified for the Champions League after yesterday’s draw with Atletico Madrid amid talk of Lopetegui being replaced by Diego Martinez.
Monchi responded this morning, snapping: “It is hard what we are playing for and for having notoriety and for giving news without contrasting absolutely nothing, a journalist from a newspaper that for me has a lot of prestige (‘Marca’) wants to give the note today and brings out a news item that, apart that it is a lie and false, it is made with bad milk.
“That today that news has been covered for two hours in the digital edition of that newspaper I think it is not a coincidence.
“Nothing has been analysed, Lopetegui is a magnificent coach, he has broken records in the club’s history, what question are we going to have with Lopetegui?
“We have achieved something for the third consecutive year that has not been done in the history of Sevilla. Leave us alone, leave us, we understand each other. And it’s not because of you, it’s because of today’s headline, which was neither the day nor the time to make that headline.
“All coaches have an exit clause. En-Nesyri can go tomorrow and Julen too if they pay their clause.”
