As reported by Kicker, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl believes they’ll be many players returning from injury and available for selection ahead of Der Klassiker this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund travel to the Allianz Arena to play Bayern Munich this weekend in what feels like one of the most eagerly anticipated duals between both clubs in recent years.
For much of this season, BVB have had a long injury lists and have rarely had a full squad to choose from. Ahead of the international break, the likes of Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, Gregor Kobel, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Youssoufa Moukoko were all missing through injury. To make matters worse, Nico Schlotterbeck has returned to Dortmund early from international duty with Germany due to muscular issues.
Despite this, Sebastian Kehl offers hope and optimism ahead of their game with Bayern.
“Of course, we used the last week to train with the boys individually and in group tactics. Hopefully, at the end of the week, we will have a very large group in training and we will travel to Munich with confidence and a full squad,” explained the 43-year-old.
He continued: “I can’t say everything about all of them yet, but we will definitely have a few back at the weekend.”
Specifically, Kehl denied that there was further setbacks for Adeyemi and explained that the winger has had a good training week and been fully involved with sessions. The same was also said for Kobel and Brandt.
Moukoko could also be available for selection, Kehl was pleased with what he saw this week: “He’s on fire. He’s trained very intensively in the last week, he’s happy to be back with the team. After the course, as I can judge today, he will be in the squad.”
With Bynoe-Gittens, the club are still analysing his shoulder injury and will make a decision later this week. One is for sure, however, BVB will have a few familiar faces lining up against Bayern this Saturday.
