Same old problems recurring for Hamburg

After just about managing a last-minute equaliser against Fortuna Düsseldorf on the weekend, Hamburg are now four games without a win in the 2. Bundesliga.

Since their relegation to the second division, Hamburg have always put themselves in good position for promotion before throwing away the opportunity in the last months of the season. Hamburg head coach, Tim Walter, doesn’t have much to do with the club’s recent past but the same old problems are once again present for all to see.

According to Kicker, in his post-match analysis, the 46-year-old head coach admitted that: “We never got what we wanted on the pitch, we were extremely sluggish, had no energy, lost the ball a lot and didn’t have the intensity for our positional play.”

Walter also expressed that he didn’t want to cite the previous week’s corona outbreak as the reason for a drop in performance levels. The head coach explained: “The opponent also had something to do with this issue and put a lot more energy on the pitch.”

Hamburg currently sit sixth in the 2. Bundesliga table and are nine points behind Bremen in second, albeit with a game in hand. HSV host Paderborn in their next league game which kickstarts a packed month of football.
