Salernitana coach Pippo Inzaghi was proud of his players after victory at Hellas Verona.
Loum Tchaouna struck the winner just after halftime.
Inzaghi later said: “I’m proud of the boys, amazing performance. Great personality, we should have scored a few more goals but we conceded very little. I have always tried to defend them, from day one they have followed me in an incredible way, they love me.
“We went through some complicated moments, there were many problems. When we found the right condition we went back to being the Salernitana that the fans and the president like.
“The club helped me a lot, they have always been close to me since I arrived, they believed in me a lot. I am happy for this great joy, for them, the boys and the fans. Today is not a day like the others, it is the birthday of my partner, a fantastic mother. I knew she couldn’t cheat on me on her day. I can’t wait to run to my family.”
On Tchaouna, he continued: “I’ve been crazy about him since day one, he has to grow and find continuity. He can become a crack, as long as he works like he is doing, in certain things he has to improve.
“Sometimes I’m even hard on him then every time he plays he comes to hug me because he knows that I want to help him become a great player. The team welcomed me well but we had to work a lot due to the many problems, also listed by the president. I knew that with work and the right spirit we could come and win here, we deserved it and it’s a nice injection of confidence.
“The road is still long though because we are still last. Tonight, however, Salerno will be proud of us and I’m happy because it’s a fantastic city with a fantastic crowd.”
