Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah insists they didn’t deserve to lose the Champions League final to Real Madrid.
The Reds lost 1-0 in Paris, with Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois turning in a man-of-the-match performance.
“We deserved to win, we had more chances. I had two or three very clear ones, but Thibaut Courtois made incredible saves. It’s his job, that’s what Real Madrid signed him for. It was his night,” he said.
In the midst of various topics of conversation, Salah was asked about his dream of winning a Ballon d’Or, with the 29-year-old revealing he was “shocked” by the seventh place on L’Equipe’s list, in 2021.
“I want to win it to join George Weah, the only African [who has already won a Ballon d’Or]. It’s true that I was shocked by my 2021 ranking. For this year, the defeat against Real Madrid is a disadvantage, even if I played well in the final.
“But that doesn’t cancel out everything I’ve achieved for months. Let’s wait for the jury’s vote. Even if I don’t win the Ballon d’Or in 2022, I’ll do everything to win the next one.”
