During an internal interview, Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has given insight into Lars Stindl’s ongoing contract talks.
Stindl has been at Gladbach since 2015 and has worked his way up to being club captain. Since his arrival, Stindl has been directly involved in 140 goals from 256 games. In total, the midfielder has scored 79 times and provided 61 assist for his side.
Gladbach are currently working on extending the 34-year-old’s contract beyond 2023.
Virkus explains: “we are also currently in talks with Lars Stindl is absolutely no secret. Lars has the time currently to think about his sporting future; after that, we will hopefully be able to find an agreement.”
The sporting director continues: “of course we will intensify the talks in the coming weeks.”
Though the deal may seem like an easy one to negotiate, there is also talk of Stindl returning to his boyhood club Karlsruher SC in the 2. Bundesliga. From the area, Stindl made his professional debut with the side when they were in the Bundesliga.
The midfielder might see it fitting to end his career where it started. This may also open the doorway for a coaching role after he has hung up his boots.
