Nemanja Matić (35) is pushing to leave Stade Rennais, according to L’Équipe. The Serbian midfielder wants to return to the Premier League.
According to Mohamed Toubache-Ter, Matić has emptied his locker at Rennes’ training ground and even left the team’s group chat as he looks to force his departure. Matić is unhappy at Rennes. He joined from AS Roma in the summer with the expectation that Les Rennais would be involved in a battle for the UEFA Champions League places, however, the side currently languish in the bottom half of the Ligue 1 table.
Lyon interested in Matić
Ouest-France report that Matić has also struggled to integrate in Brittany. The Serbian arrived at the club under the assumption that he could enrol his children at an international school in Rennes, however, one does not exist. His three children therefore go to a school in Rennes, but none of his children are French speakers.
As a result, Matić is now increasingly determined to leave Rennes this month. However, for now, Olympique Lyonnais are the only club to have shown a significant interest. OL would, however, find the deal financially difficult to pull off, whilst Matić himself, who has previously played for Chelsea and Manchester United, would prefer a return to the Premier League.
