Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with their 4-1 victory over Valencia.
Karim Benzema converted a penalty to open the scoring for Los Blancos before two second-half goals from Vinicius Junior saw Ancelotti’s side pull away from Jose Bordalas’ charges. Goncalo Guedes pulled one back for Valencia from the penalty spot, but by then it was too little too late. Benzema then added another for Real Madrid in the latter stages of the match.
“We played well and are deserved winners. We opened the scoring with a penalty and that helped us. It was a complete performance. We had a few defensive struggles early on, but from the half-hour mark onwards we created a lot of chances and Modrić hit the bar. We deserved to win it,” said Ancelotti.
“We have to take it game by game and see how the players feel in each match. Vinicius Jr. came back and did a great job. It wasn’t his dribbling that stood out today but he’s got the goals. He scored two poacher’s goals. Karim is the same as ever, he’s in great shape. We’re always going to compete.”
On Marco Asensio, he added: “He played really well, much better than he did against Getafe. If he plays well, he gets the full 90 minutes and if he doesn’t, he’ll play 45 like in Getafe. He played at the same level as Benzema and Vinicius Jr. and we saw the benefit”.
