Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has heaped praise on Harry Maguire following a near-perfect performance against Leicester on Saturday evening.
The defender endured a difficult time while on international duty as fans booed him during England’s friendly matches, but he put in an assured performance against his former side at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the match, Rangnick further highlighted the tactical chance involving the club’s number five.
“Both as expected,” said the German, when asked about Maguire’s performance and subsequent reaction.
“The reaction of our supporters was as it always is. Our supporters are one of the best, if not the best, in England.
“Harry played well and he had an almost flawless game today defensively. It was a solid performance by him.”
“Since I arrived, we have been discussing this because he prefers to play on the left side although he is right footed,” Ralf added.
“And now I saw him play for England last week, when he played in a back four on the right side, that’s why I decided that he should play on the right side which is better for him anyway when we open up the game from our backline for him as a right-footed player.
United fell behind in the 63rd minute after Kelechi Iheanacho found the back of the net, but Fred swept home the equaliser three minutes later.
They could not find a winner in the remaining 25 or so minutes, settling for a point instead.
