PSG left-back Lucas Hernandez set for France return with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté a doubt

Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Hernandez (27) is expected to receive a call-up by France manager Didier Deschamps this Thursday, according to a report from Le Parisien. Deschamps will reveal in the afternoon a 23-man squad for the upcoming international break. Les Bleus will host Ireland at Paris’ Parc des Princes on September 7th as part of their campaign to qualify for the Euro 2024. France will then face Germany for a friendly game at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park five days later.

Hernandez is poised to return to the France squad after sustaining a season-ending ACL injury during France’s 2022 World Cup opener against Australia. AC Milan left-back Théo Hernandez filled in in the absence of his older brother. Both are expected to receive a call-up. The same can’t be said about Ibrahima Konaté. The Liverpool centre-back has sustained a minor muscle injury and had to sit out the Reds’ come-back 2-1 win against Newcastle last Sunday. Le Parisien understands that Konaté is a doubt for the next international break. Should the Liverpool defender miss out, Deschamps is expected to call up four centre-backs in Arsenal’s William Saliba, Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
