L’Équipe are reporting that Premier League interest in Olympique de Marseille midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi (24) has waned, however, Inter Milan and Lazio have an interest in the former Arsenal midfielder.
After an overwhelmingly positive first season with Marseille, Guendouzi was demoted to the role of a squad player towards the end of the Igor Tudor era last season. Since Marcelino’s arrival, the France international has had to settle for a place on the bench.
The expectation throughout the summer has been that Guendouzi will leave the club, however, interest has waned. Aston Villa made a contract offer in January, but the club ultimately opted to sign Youri Tielemans on a free transfer. West Ham United were also linked in the Spring, but are now less keen on a move, whilst Brighton and Hove Albion are looking at different profiles as well.
The player’s entourage remain optimistic of a move due to the volatile nature of the English transfer market, but for now at least, the interest isn’t there. No bids have arrived, but there is interest from Serie A with Inter Milan and Lazio both interested in the Marseille midfielder. With time running out, Les Phocéens accept that they may have to sanction a loan deal with a likely purchase option.
