Paul Pogba (30) has confirmed the court’s decision to ban him for four years and that he will look to appeal this decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It was earlier reported that Pogba had been banned for doping after the Tribunal Nationale Antidoping were unconvinced by his claims that he unknowingly took a banned substance. Pogba believes that this decision is “incorrect” and he and his lawyers will look to contest it.
Pogba states on Instagram “I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.” The player continues, “As a professional athlete I would never do anything to enhance my performance by using banned substances and have never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for, or against.”
Pogba to launch an appeal to contest the decision
The former World Cup winner has been unable to play since September due to an injury that was then followed by a precautionary decision to ban the player until after the trial had been completed.
Pogba will look to have this ban against him dismissed as he will launch an appeal to CAS in an attempt to return to the professional game as soon as possible. The player states, “As a consequence of the decision announced today I will appeal this before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
