Patrick Bamford returns from injury, set to feature against Aston Villa

Leeds United have been boosted by the return of Patrick Bamford from recurrent injuries.

The striker has missed the Whites’ season for much of the season, but coach Jesse Marsch revealed on Wednesday he will have the club’s number nine when they play Aston Villa on Thursday night.

“He will play tomorrow,” confirmed manager Jesse Marsch in his pre-match press conference.

“He won’t start but he’ll be ready from the bench. We’re excited to have him back and I think he’ll give us a real boost.

“The effect he has on the group will be relatively massive. We just need to make sure we handle him carefully.”

He will greatly boost Leeds’ frontline, who have lacked in that quarter this season, scoring 29 goals in 27 matches.

Similarly, Steven Gerrad will have almost an entire team to pick from for the Elland Road trip.

“We’re in a good place. We’ve got the majority of the team fit and available.

“There’s only Marvelous Nakamba who we’re waiting for to come back into the group.

“Carney Chukwuemeka will join the group, Ezri Konsa’s back available, Lucas Digne’s back, so I’ve got some tough decisions from now until kick-off. That’s the position I like to be in.”

Leeds are winless in their last five Premier League matches and will be looking to halt that run.
