Olivier Giroud becomes oldest French player to score in the Champions League: “I’m exhausted but it was worth it!”

Olivier Giroud reacts following AC Milan’s 2-1 win over PSG in the Champions League, where the Frenchman scored on the 50th minute to become the oldest French goalscorer in the the competition. The former Arsenal and Chelsea man said the following to RMC Sport

“I wasn’t overly worried, I knew we had to play at 110%. We didn’t repeat the little mistakes of the first leg and, above all, we showed that we could create chances,” began the striker on the match.

“Yes, I’m 37 but I’m still experiencing incredible emotions. I love it. The San Siro was insane and Milan fans chanting… I loved that and I’m proud of my team”.

“All we had to do was be more clinical in our finishing. We were effective and we stuck to our game plan perfectly. We knew what we had to do defensively. It wasn’t easy because they moved around a lot but we stuck together. I’m exhausted but it was worth it!”

At the age of 37 years and 38 days old the Frenchman to score a goal in Champions League history, overtaking Laurent Blanc (36 years and 338 days), according to Opta. He rose high above Skriniar to head Milan into the lead, securing 3 vital points for Milan in a Group F which is looking increasingly challenging for Luis Enrique’s PSG side.
