L’Equipe are reporting that Oliver Glasner turned down the opportunity to replace Laurent Blanc as Olympique Lyonnais manager after watching Les Gones‘ first four Ligue 1 games.
The 2022 Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt was touted as a possible replacement for the 1998 World Cup winner with France at Lyon. The Ligue 1 club’s owner and Eagle Football Holdings chief John Textor reportedly met Glasner in his own country, Austria, at Salzburg.
The outlet understands that Glasner pulled out of the race after witnessing the scale of the challenge at hand. Lyon sit bottom of the league after drawing one and losing three of their first four Ligue 1 games. Before the international break, Lyon delivered a wretched team performance at home against champions PSG, who ran away 4-1 winners.
Graham Potter was also reportedly considered to take over from Blanc. L’Equipe adds that the English manager made it known that he did not want to return to management so early after his dismissal from Chelsea FC.
Lyon are set to appoint one of their former players, 2006 World Cup winner with Italy Fabio Grosso, as manager in the coming hours. The former international left-back achieved Serie A promotion with Frosinone last season.
