Rennes attacking midfielder Lovro Majer (25) has officially joined Wolfsburg, both clubs have announced. The Bundesliga have made the Croatian international the second most expensive signing in their history after Julian Draxler’s €43m switch from Schalke in 2015. The Wolves and Rennes have reportedly agreed upon a total transfer package of €35m including €5m worth of performance-related add-ons. The technically-gifted midfielder arrived in Brittany two years ago from Dinamo Zagreb in a €12m deal. In 79 games played with Les Rouge et Noir, Majer registered nine goals and 16 assists. The Croatian international played his final game with Rennes last Sunday, coming off the bench against Metz.

Majer gradually lost ground in Bruno Genesio’s plans for Stade Rennais, despite a contract renewal sealed last year that had tied him until 2027. The Croatian international departed Brittany yesterday afternoon to seal his move to Wolfsburg. He has penned a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side until 2028. He will wear the #19 shirt for Niko Kovać. Majer already took part in a full training session with his new teammates.
