Norway coach Solbakken backing Eriksen for successful playing return

Norway coach Stale Solbakken is backing Christian Eriksen for a successful playing return.

Eriksen has announced he intends to return to pro football after recovering from his cardiac arrest during the Euros withe Denmark.

Solbakken was forced to retire due to a heart complaint and he said of the former Tottenham and Inter Milan midfielder’s plans: “I will not speak on his behalf, but there are many indications that he is over the biggest challenge; to get through it mentally and trust his body. He has shown that he can play football, so it is good.”

The former Wolves manager also told VG: “If I had said I would play football again, I do not think I would have been stopped. I got a ‘yellow light’. But I felt like my career was a few years from the end and thought it was easiest for everyone that I quit.

“Had I been 25 years old and single, I think I would have played on. But it is impossible to compare these scenarios. You need a diagnosis and know the background material, and I do not know that with Eriksen.”
