Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson was happy to score in victory at Fulham.
Wilson struck in the 4-1 win at Craven Cottage.
He later said, “It’s a nice feeling [to get the win]. The performances have been good of late. Unfortunately, I have not been part of that but the lads have been putting in great performances and just didn’t have three points to show for it, but everything came together today.
“The performance today was about mindset. Today we knew we had to start fast against a team that have been playing well and thankfully we have come out on top to get the three points.
“There was an embarrassing miss from me at first, showing a bit of rust, but I was happy to get on the score sheet.
“When you are out injured you are very disappointed, obviously, but you can’t feel sorry for yourself. You try to pick yourself up, work hard on your rehab and today I was able to help the team get three points.”
On his reaction to being substituted, Wilson added: “No striker, when your team is 4-0 up, is going to be happy to come off. I understand the thinking but once you take emotion out of it you understand it.
“That’s my mentality, I always want to score. I am playing catch-up, so today was a perfect opportunity to get some goals behind me.”
