Newcastle United captain Kieran Trippier concedes they were never competitive for their collapse at Aston Villa in Saturday’s early kickoff.
Villa thumped Newcastle 3-0 at Villa Park via goals from Jacob Ramsey and an Ollie Watkins brace.
Trippier said, “From minute one we knew we weren’t right. Aston Villa came out of the traps quickly;. The way we played wasn’t ourselves. We’ve got to forget about his result as we have big games coming up.
“No excuses but this is what we do ultimately [play a lot of games]. In and out of possession we were well off it. Full credit to Aston Villa they played well.
“[I expect the manager to] go mad to be honest. Like I said before, out of possession we are normally aggressive and press. Today in possession we were long ball and that’s unlike us. We will focus on the game against Spurs.”
