New Salernitana owner Danilo Iervolino says he has big ambitions for the club.
Iervolino bought the Serie A minnows for €10m just minutes before a deadline set which could’ve seen the club thrown out of Serie A.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito had to sell by midnight on December 31 as Italian rules deny two clubs being controlled by the same owner in the same division.
“The passion of the fans is a necessary propellant for us to reach safety. I was surprised and flattered by the warm welcome I received,” Iervolino told TuttoSalernitana.
“The January transfer window is a tricky one to navigate, so we’ll soon decide who the directors will be for this new course of action.
“The Salernitana project is not just tied to football, but a hub bringing opportunity to people of the area in many different professions.”
Iervolino is setting his sights firmly on some other Serie A sides who have found great success, despite not being the biggest clubs in Italy.
“I think Salerno is a city that should aspire to having a football club in the top 10 of Serie A. Atalanta and Sassuolo are two splendid examples of successful planning and a healthy approach to football. We hope to do the same for US Salernitana 1919.”
