New angle of Real Madrid star’s iconic free-kick vs Sweden

The 2018 World Cup was certainly a tournament to forget for Germany.

Die Mannschaft arrived in Russia as the holders of sport’s most prestigious trophy, having blown away every other country four years earlier – host nation Brazil in particular.

Germany’s squad for the 2018 edition of the World Cup was brimming with world-class players as well, but Joachim Low’s side just weren’t up to the task of defending their crown.

The European giant crashed out of the tournament in the group stage after amassing just three points from their three games.

Germany’s first outing saw them lose 1-0 to Mexico, while the last of the three was a 2-0 humbling at the hands of Heung-min Son’s South Korea side.

The only positive for the team was their second match, where they beat Sweden 2-1 with 10 men.

Jerome Boateng was shown a second yellow card shortly after Marco Reus equalised for Germany and subsequently, victory looked incredibly hard to come by for Low’s men.

But in stoppage-time, Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos stepped up and scored a quite incredible free-kick from a very tight angle.

It was a moment of magic from a wonderful technician and guess what? The goal is still wowing football fans four years later.

A new camera angle of the iconic strike has popped up on social media and to say it’s attracted attention would be something of an understatement.

At the time of writing, the footage has been liked by over 182,000 accounts and has been retweeted over 19,000 times.

If ever a football-themed video deserves to be hung in The Louvre, it’s that. Kroos could not have hit the ball any sweeter and to deliver those high-quality goods under such extraordinary pressure is remarkable.

The only football fan who will still not be able to enjoy the goal all these years later is the person who narrowly missed out on winning £5,250 from a bet at the time.

All they needed was Kroos to score from outside the box to complete the £5 accumulator, but sadly for them, the German made contact with the ball a few inches inside the area.

Talk about heartbreaking…
