Nations League: Hungary thrash England as Germany maul Italy

England suffered a 4-0 humiliating defeat to Hungary on Tuesday night in the UEFA Nations League, Group A3, Round 4 clash.

Hungary became the first team to score four goals in an away match against England since the Hungarians themselves won 6-3 at Wembley in November 1953. Roland Salla handed Hungary the lead inside 16 minutes of play before grabbing his brace in the second half.

Adam Nagy made it 3-0 for Hungary and it got worse for the Three Lions as Jone Stones was sent off for a second yellow card. Daniel Gazdag then nailed the final goal to leave England rooted at the bottom of the group table.

In the other match, Italy suffered a similarly heavy, if less humiliating, 5-2 defeat to Germany in Monchengladbach. Joshua Kimmich began the rout after 10 minutes before an Ilkay Gundogan penalty, a Thomas Muller effort and a quickfire double from Chelsea’s Timo Werner.

Italy’s consolations came from Wilfried Gnonto and Alessandro Bastoni.

The results put Hungary top of the group, a point ahead of Germany and two above Italy, with England three points adrift at the bottom.
