Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti was delighted after their 3-1 win at Atalanta.
Lorenzo Insigne (penalty), Matteo Politano and Eljif Elmas struck for Napoli on the day.
“Insigne and Mario Rui dictate the free kick routine. Politano timed the run perfectly and it was also an excellent finish on the volley on a ball that was coming from behind,” Spalletti told DAZN.
“This is where we are now, in order to challenge at this level, we need to have the right mentality from start to finish. We cannot hold back now, we’ve got to aim for victory in every way.
“We suffered a little in the opening 15 minutes and the start of the second half. Alessandro Zanoli had a great game today, including the assist for the penalty. From there, we were able to breathe and play better.
“Naturally, Atalanta came back at us, pinning us back and scored a goal, but that is where we saw the character of my team. We realised 2-1 wasn’t going to be enough and got the third.”
He added: “The definitive step is when we win silverware, but we must never lower our guard or think we’ve achieved our goal. It’s true we seem to have stabilised now, but we must never forget those defeats at home, so we can make sure they never happen again.
“This is a united team that has realised it is challenging to give joy to an entire city, a city that deserves it.”
