Milan manager Stefano Pioli has spoken about the decision to hand Fikayo Tomori a red card following the Rossoneri’s loss to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Milan played a vast majority of the game with ten men because Tomori was shown a straight card for a challenge on Mason Mount which wasn’t even a foul for many. Jorginho converted the penalty and the Blues scored another through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the first half.
While Milan did manage to keep the scoreline at 2-0, they suffered another defeat at the hands of Graham Potter’s side. After the game, Pioli spoke to Mediaset (via TMW) about the game and stated:
“The match began and the feeling was that we will be able to play a good match. Then the penalty and red card happened and it changed everything, Chelsea didn’t need to play in numerical superiority. I don’t want to see Tomori’s red card again, it seems too obvious. I don’t want to comment. I told the referee what I think, I don’t even speak fluent English but I think he understood.”
Milan slipped to third in the Champions League group because of the loss, with Salzburg now in second. But Milan’s last two games see them take on the Austrian side and Dinamo Zagreb and winning those games will probably confirm a spot in the knockout stages of the competition.
