Mikel Arteta has stated that he is unsure whether the Gunners will be able to make any additional January signings.
The London side has loaned out Pablo Mari and Ainsley Maitland-Niles this month but has yet to introduce any new faces to the Emirates even with their persistent selection issues.
Arsenal remain disappointed in their pursuit of Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic in their hunt for forward reinforcements, with Arteta watching his team fall short against Burnley on Sunday.
When asked post-match if Arsenal could pull off any deals late in the window, Arteta said: “Well, we are certainly trying, but I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do it. Let’s see, it’s not only our intention, but a lot of facts that are needed to happen,” as quoted by arsenal.com.
“The market is difficult, it’s complicated. We knew that, but it’s a lot to manage and we have to make the right decisions with players that we believe are going to really help us and try to bring in ones that can take us to the next level.”
Arsenal fell short of reclaiming a top-four spot following Sunday’s stalemate, but are only two points behind Manchester United with a game in hand.
At the very least, Arteta will be relieved to see Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey return from suspension for the international break’s match with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
