Dutch international striker Memphis Depay is set to stay at Barcelona despite rumors linking him with a move in the summer.
There had been reports that Barca was considering selling the former Man United man in order to reduce their wage bill but it seems there is no club willing to take him with his current wages proving to be a bother for his suitors.
According to SPORT, the sporting staff at the club see the striker as a valuable member of the team and wish to keep him around despite pressure to fund some of their moves including Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich who could be a replacement for Depay.
Depay joined Barça only last summer, arriving on a free transfer after his contract with Olympique Lyon had run out. The 28-year-old enjoyed a fine start to life in Catalonia, scoring some important goals before an injury in early December derailed his campaign.
The injury saw him return to action in March at a time when Barca had signed Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who were both now ahead of him in the pecking order.
Arsenal are one of the clubs to have shown interest in the player but it seems Barcelona has changed their position in the player as they struggle to fund their targets and would like Depay to stay and add depth to their strikeforce.
The 28-year-old has impressed on national team duty this month and scored the winning goal in stoppage time as the Oranje beat Wales 3-2 on Tuesday night. In the process, he took his tally for the Netherlands to 42 goals, becoming their second all-time leading goalscorer, only behind Robin van Persie.
