Marco Rose relaxed despite deadlock in RB Leipzig’s pursuit of Loïs Openda and Lutsharel Geertruida

RB Leipzig’s Marco Rose is relaxed about the club’s transfer activity despite a deadlock in the negotiations for Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida and Lens’ Loïs Openda.

Speaking after Leipzig’s first pre-season training session, Rose said: “It’s no use losing your nerve. We’re super positive and relaxed about it,” before adding that they “need a few good and exciting to compensate for the departures.”

Rose remains in constant contact with Max Eberl and Rouven Schröder regarding the club’s transfer plans. Despite the departure of Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea and Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool, RB Leipzig have secured deals for Christoph Baumgartner, Benjamin Šeško, Nicolas Seiwald, Leopold Zingerle and a season-long loan for Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, which wasn’t a part of the Szoboszlai transfer.

Leipzig made a fourth approach for Openda, but their €43m offer for the Belgian international doesn’t appear to match Lens’ valuation. The Saxony club have identified Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun as an alternative should they fail to sign the former.

In defence, Leipzig have agreed terms with Geertruida but have again seen their approach knocked back by Feyenoord. As reported by Philipp Hinze, the Dutch club want a figure between €35m-€40m, which would make the Dutchman the club’s biggest departure.
