English giants Manchester United are in the final stages of their negotiations with Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag.
The Dutchman is the favorite to take over the club on a permanent basis and according to ESPN, the club is set to end this difficult couple of months and finally approach Ten Hag to be the next manager.
The reports state that a cheap release clause of around £1.7m is all that United needs to send to Ajax for the arrival of the manager in Manchester with the 52-year-old having been interviewed for the job.
Others who have been linked with the job include Paris Saint Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino, Spain coach Luis Enrique and Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui. Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann had minor interest from United as well but they are currently unavailable.
The process of getting a new manager has been left for football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher with reports rife that the club is preferring someone with United experience to be Ten Hag’s assistant; Robin van Persie and Steve McClaren being the candidates to be linked with the position.
Rene Meulensteen is one candidate being considered to replace Mike Phelan but all these will need the approval of Ten Hag who is expected to give a list of players he wants at the club ahead of the new season.
