Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette: “I don’t feel close to the end.”

In an interview with Téléfoot, Alexandre Lacazette (31) has evoked the possibility of finishing his career at Olympique Lyonnais but added that he doesn’t believe that he is already reaching the end of his career.

Having left Lyon to join Arsenal for €53m back in 2017, Lacazette returned to his formative club this summer. His first season back in the French top flight has been a resounding success. Only Kylian Mbappé (22) and Jonathan David (21) have scored more than Lacazette’s 20 Ligue 1 goals this season.

His goal against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday wasn’t enough to earn his side any points in the Choc des Olympiques, a result that harms Lyon’s ambitions of European football for next season. Lacazette, in the two remaining years of his contract, will be looking to get back into Europe with Les Gones.

Asked by former Arsenal teammate where he believed he would finish his career, Lacazette replied, “It is too early to know. It could be at Lyon, even if I have two years left on my contract, you never know what will come next. I don’t feel like I’m close to the end [of my career]. I hope my film isn’t finished.”

Lyon are only six points off a European qualification spot, but the club have struggled for consistency this season, and must finish the season stronger than Lille OSC and Stade Rennais, both of whom are above them in the standings.
